Instructions

1. Put the jewelry box, ring boxes, necklace holders, and a mirror in the
Dramatic Play area. Add inexpensive clip-on earrings, bracelets, old watches,
rings, necklaces, and so on. Don't forget to include jewelry for boys!
2. Ask parents to donate to this collection, and look for inexpensive costume
jewelry at yard sales.
3. Encourage the children to be creative with the jewelry in their dramatic play.
Ask them if there are other ways they could use the jewelry, such as in a
jewelry store or as part of a fashion show.
More to do
Art: Cut drinking straws into 1/2 " lengths. Cut out circles 1/2 " in diameter from
construction paper and punch holes into each circle. Cut 20" lengths of yarn and
wrap one end of each length with a small amount of masking tape to stiffen the
end. Encourage the children to make necklaces and bracelets to add to the
jewelry boxes. After they string items on the yarn, help them tie the ends
together.
Math: Encourage the children to cut out pictures of jewelry from magazines.
Collect the pictures and show the children how to sort the pictures into separate
groups, such as rings, bracelets, pins, and necklaces.
