Instructions

1. This activity works well in classrooms where children serve themselves their
own snacks.
2. Decorate a can or cylinder-shaped box with pictures of words related to
food. Put the can in the middle of the snack table.
3. Write each child's name on a clothespin. Clip the clothespins to the side of
the can so that the names face out and go around the top of the can.
4. As the children are eating their snack, ask them to find their clothespin and
deposit it into the can. This is great for name recognition and for the teacher
to know at a glance who has and has not had snack.
5. If parents provide snack, make sure they know the children serve themselves
snack so they can send in easy-to-serve snacks.
6. For snacks that are not already in individual bags, use coffee filters. The
children can put one serving on a filter and munch away.
7. This is a great way to create independence and self-help skills in children.
