nuts with shells (peanuts, walnuts, and so on)

citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruits, tangerines)

spoon

fork

Instructions

1. Place the tools, kitchen objects, fruits, and nuts on the table.
2. Let each child choose a nut or fruit. Safety Note: Check for allergies. If
any of the children are allergic to nuts, do not do this activity with real
nuts (use pictures instead).
3. Ask each child which tool on the table could be used to crack open and
eat the contents of the fruit or nut without damaging the insides.
4. Discuss other ways to crack open the nuts or fruit.
5. Supervise (and help) the children use different tools to open the nuts or
fruits.
6. Eat the results of your work!
