Instructions

1. Cut the rug into a freeform island shape. Place in an isolated corner. Add a
chair, books, basket, CDs, and CD player. Add a beach scene to the wall or a
palm tree photo to enhance the environment.
2. When a child needs quiet time to calm down, call it "Island Time." The child may
read or listen to music on the earphones until she is ready to join the group.
3. Children may elect to go to the "island" if they are upset, or you may suggest
they go.
4. If desired, add a sand kitchen timer or lava timer for children to redirect their
focus. Also, a photo album filled with calming or happy pictures changes
moods fast!
