Instructions
1. Read or recite each line of the following poem with the children and perform
the motions.
Today's the day we go to the fair! (clap hands)
So many people everywhere! (look side to side)
Run over to the merry-go-round, (run in place)
Pick a horse, ride up and down. (rise up on tiptoes, squat down, repeat)
A fire engine ride? If you dare. (point and shake finger three times)
Hear its siren in the air. (put hands over ears)
A Ferris wheel! See it spin! (twirl around)
A wooden ring? Let's toss it in! (make a throwing motion)
No more games, I tried my best. (shake head "no," shrug, hands up at sides
with palms up)
Whew! I need to go home and rest! (stretch and yawn)
More to do
Games: Help the children create their own fair. Draw or cut out balloon shapes,
have a ring toss over soda bottles, make a wheel spin for colors or numbers, put
plastic ducks marked with numbers on the bottom in a small swimming pool,
apply face paint, dig in a sandbox for small surprises, and so on. Prizes can
include small containers of popcorn, pretzels, or raisins, or bright pencils.
No more games, I tried my best. (shake head "no," shrug, hands up at sides
with palms up)
