Materials
newspaper, at least 20 sheets for each child
baby wipes or soap and waterInstructions
1. Have the children form two lines facing each other.
2. Unfold the newspaper and place a stack in front of each child.
3. Tell the children the newspaper is their pile of "snow" and they are to
make snowballs out of each sheet.
4. The child crumples one sheet of newspaper into a "snowball" and throws
it "snowball fight" style to the other line of children. Lots of giggles will
follow.
5. As the pile of "snowballs" grows in the center of the room, invite one or
two children at a time to make "snow angels" by lying down in the pile
and dragging their arms and legs through the "snow." Fluff the pile as
needed.
6. If the pile of "snow" is large enough, the children can "trudge" through it,
"tunnel" through it, or build a fort to hide behind.
7. When finished, ask the children to flatten the sheets and stack them for
recycling.
Note: Make sure children wash the newsprint from their hands when
finished. Caution them not to put their hands in their mouths or on their
faces until they have washed off any newsprint from their hands.
More to do Science: Talk about why a flat sheet of paper doesn't fly as well as a paper
snowball when thrown.
