Instructions

1. Make a friendship flag with the children the first week of school.
2. Each child writes her name or draws a small picture of herself on a piece of
muslin. Make sure that each child is represented on the flag.
3. Staple the muslin to a dowel rod and put it with the American flag.
4. With the children, say the following "Friendship Pledge" along with the
"Pledge of Allegiance" every morning. Assign a different pledge leader each
day to hold the flag.
I pledge to myself, on this day,
To try to be kind, in every way.
To every person, big and small,
I will help them, if they fall.
When I love myself and
others too,
That is the best that I can do.
5. This is a nice way to start the day
with a friendly reminder to be kind
to each other.
