What to do
1. At the start of school, photograph the children or ask them to bring a special photo from home.
2. Ask the children about their family and pets, their favorite color, their interests, and any special
memory or information the child would like to share with the class.
3. Invite the children to make a crayon drawing that they will share with their classmates; encourage
the children to include themselves in the picture.
4. Create a separate page for each child. Record the information they shared and attach their
photo. On the facing page, insert the child's drawing.
5. Assemble the pages in a "Friendship Book."
6. Design an interesting cover for the book.
7. Share the "Friendship Book" in class, and let the children have a turn sharing it with their families.
More to do
Circle time: Gather the children in a circle around you, then roll a large ball to the children, inviting
them to say their name and roll the ball back to you. Invite older children to tell you something
special about themselves that you record on a piece of paper; place the papers in a basket
and pull them out one at a time, asking the children to guess who the information is about.
