1. Whenever you need to count the children in your care, involve the
children by singing the following song.
Friend Everywhere (Tune: "Row, Row, Row Your Boat")
Friends, friends everywhere
As far as I can see.
We'll know how many friends we have
If you'll count with me.
2. Encourage the children to count together as you point to each child.
More to do Use the above song in other centers by changing a few of the words. For
example, in the Construction Zone, recite the following rhyme. Have the children
count with you as you pick up blocks to put them away.
Blocks, blocks everywhere,
As far as I can see.
We'll know how many blocks we have
If you'll count with me.
Math: Make graphs to show the characteristics of the children in your class.
Graph by gender, hair color, eye color, color of shirts, and so on.
