Instructions

Prepare containers by labeling them "recycle" and "reuse."
* Write a letter to families explaining the recycle, reuse, and reduce topic. In
the letter, ask the families to reinforce recycling and sorting at home and to
send things in to the classroom for this project.
What to Do
1. Read a book introducing the topic (see list for suggestions). Discuss the
containers you labeled.
2. Collect items and help the children sort them into the containers.
3. Have a Reuse Books Day. Have the children bring in a book to exchange with
their classmates.
4. Involve parents by having a Reuse Clothing Day for children to exchange
clothing. Ask parents and family members to bring outgrown clothing sorted
by size and set them out on a table in the school.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Ask the children to draw pictures in the segmented paper to show they
understand what recycle, reuse, and reduce mean.
* How well do the children sort the materials into different containers?
