Materials

New, clean flyswatters

2 identical sets of flashcards for whatever skill you're trying to reinforce (You can

buy these or make them with 3" x 5" index cards.)

Instructions

1. Give each child a paper plate. Ask them to draw a picture in the center of
their plate.
2. Then cut the picture into three or four pieces.
3. Give the children the pieces of their drawing and an additional plate. Ask
them to reassemble their pictures, using the second plate as a puzzle "tray."
4. As they are working, recite the following poem:
I have a little puzzle.
I took the pieces out.
I put them back together,
That's what it's all about!
More to do
Have a Puzzle Day, highlighting the classroom puzzles. Showcase any floor
puzzles that are available. If possible, introduce new puzzles and encourage the
children to try to reassemble a friend's drawing.
Art: Glue old jigsaw puzzle pieces to headbands to wear for Puzzle Day.
