Materials

pictures of grasshoppers and butterflies or the

actual bugs in ventilated jars

masking tape

Instructions

* Find an inexpensive set of plastic
butterflies or paper cutouts of
butterflies. Make color
photocopies of them or take
pictures.
* Create a file-folder activity with the
copies of pictures glued to the inside
of the file folder.
What to Do
1. Talk with the children about butterflies. Ask
the children to describe butterflies they have seen.
2. Set out the file folder and plastic butterflies where
the children have access to them.
3. Show the children each butterfly, and ask the children to describe the
butterflies.
4. Explain that there are matching images of these butterflies in the file folder.
5. Challenge the children to work independently to match the loose butterflies to
their pairs in the file folder.
