Materials

Baby food jars Large bowls

Water Pitcher

Small objects such as marbles, coins

Instructions

1. Place empty baby food jars in bowls.

2. Fill jars with water to the top.

3. Children drop in as many of each item as will fitand observe where the water goes.

4. Children count the number of items in each jar.More to doMore science: Find a larger jar and mark lines on the outside with a marker or tape every 1/2 inch(13 mm), making a beaker. Place the baby food jar inside and repeat the experiment. Coloring thewater helps. Find small toys and common heavy objects around the room. Drop them into the jarand see how much water is displaced. Drop in tablespoons of sand to observe water displacement.
