Instructions

1. This activity enables children to transition from outdoors to indoors. Have
the children pretend to spread peanut butter on the soles of their shoes
before starting this activity.
2. Chant verse one while the children march along, following you.
3. The children enjoy dramatizing lifting their feet as if they were stuck to the
ground.
4. Continue the first verse until the class reaches the door to the building.
Chant verse two in repetition until all of the children are inside.
5. The visual imagery of sticking to the floor helps slow down the children who
tend to run. Conversely, the rhythmic pattern helps prevent children who
tend to straggle from behind from doing so.
Verse 1: Hut, two, three, four, peanut butter on the floor!
Verse 2: Hut, two, three, four, wipe the butter on the door!
More to do Put a picture on the wall of an entryway that rhymes with "door." The children
can wipe their "peanut butter" off on that item. For example, they could wipe
their feet on a store, an apple core, or a boar.
