Instructions

Teach the children the following fingerplay (similar to "Five Little Pumpkins").
Five Little Candles
Five little candles on a birthday cake. (hold up five fingers)
The first one said, "We'd better stay awake!" (point to each finger)
The second one said, "Let's give off some light."
The third one said," My, we sure are bright."
The fourth one said, "Your birthday's here!"
The fifth one said, "Let's give a big cheer!"
"Oooh" went the wind that blew the candles out, (bend fingers down)
And everybody gave a great big shout:
"Happy Birthday!"
More to do Art:
If desired, decorate a white, pink, or brown glove or mitt to look like a birthday cake. Cut out yellow flames from felt and attach to each finger of the glove (the fingers are the candles).
