Materials
Brown blanket or rug, big enough for five children
Six or more hula hoops (fewer will work, but it won't be as much fun)
Instructions
1. Collect as many cereal box covers as you would like. Ask parents to bring incereal boxes, too.2. Cut out the front cover of each cereal box.3. Punch three holes on the left side of each cover and bind them together withyarn to make a book.4. Show the book at circle time. Ask for volunteers to "read" the pages aloud.Chances are, at least one of the children will know the name of the cerealjust by being familiar with these products. Environmental print is a great wayto start children on their pre-reading skills.5. Put the book in the Book Center. The children will enjoy a book that they canread all by themselves!
