Instructions

1. Yut-nol-eei is a traditional game in Korea that children play on New Year's
Day.
2. Cut out a diamond shape from white construction paper. Draw lines and
shapes (see illustration on the next page) on it to make what is called a
"yut-pan."
3. Draw an "X" on each of the four craft sticks to mark the "back" side. Leave
the other side empty to make the "front" side. The four sticks are called
"yut." Each "yut" stands for one of five animals (pig, dog, lamb, cow, and
horse).
4. Show the children how to play with the "yut" on the "yut-pan" game board.
Each child will throw the "yut" and then move her game piece forward
following the arrows according to the following rules:
* One front and three back: The child will shout "Dough!" (which means
pig) and move one space.
* Two fronts and two back: The child will shout "Gae!" (dog) and move
two spaces.
* Three fronts and one back: The child will shout "Gur!" (lamb) and
move three spaces.
* Four front: The child will shout "Yut!" (cow) and move four spaces and
throw the "yut" again.
