Instructions

1. Talk with the children about what they want to be when they grow up. Point out
that there are many people in the community who help the children. Show the
children the pictures of community helpers. Ask the children which helpers they
have met.
2. Show the children the various dress-up clothes and props, and invite the children
to put on the clothes that match the careers they want to explore. Take pictures of
the children in their career clothes.
3. Print out the pictures of the children, paste them onto pieces of construction
paper, and help the children write a note at the bottom of their pictures,
explaining why they like the community helpers they dressed as. Invite the
children to draw around their pictures as well.
4. Gather all the children's pictures together and staple them into a book. Add a
cover page and title it "Our Classroom Careers," or something similar. Place the
book in the class library for the children to explore.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children name the various community helpers in the pictures?
l Which community helpers do each of the children like best?
