Instructions
1. Begin this activity by discussing earth formations, especially mountains, hills,
plains, deserts, rivers, lakes, and oceans.
2. Help the children make paper formations of each of these earth formations.
Make them large enough to wear or hold. For example:
* Mountains: Make large pointed hats to fit over the head and
shoulders. Cut openings for the eyes. Paint these silver and gray.
* Hills: Construct these the same way as the mountains, only smaller and
rounder. Paint them green.
* Plains: Make trees and houses from construction paper. Place them on
a large, flat piece of brown paper.
* Deserts: Construct sand dunes and cacti on a large, flat piece of yellow
or gold paper.
* Rivers: Use a long, blue strip of paper. (Three children will need to hold
it.)
* Lakes: Make a large, round blue surface on a large piece of paper.
* Oceans: Use a huge, flat deep blue piece of paper to make an
ocean. Several children will need to hold it.
3. Produce a little drama in which the children will say who they are. For
example:
* Mountain: I am a mountain, very tall. I reach very high, far above all.
* Hill: I am a hill: bumpy, round, and green. I am covered with
trees and bushes.
* Plain: I am a plain: land flat and good. You might build your house
here.
