Materials

shapes cut out of paper

a bowl or bag

Instructions

1. Place the shape cutouts in a bag.
2. Have each child pull one shape out of the bag. Encourage him to talk about
the shape.
3. Have the children find an object in the room that matches their shape. If it is a
small group, the children can take individual turns. For larger groups, have two
to four children look for a match to their shape at a time.
4. Encourage each child to talk about his shape and the matching object he
found in the room. Some children may need assistance at first until they
practice a couple of times. They may not recall the name of the shape and just
make the match.
5. After the children name the objects they found, repeat the process, giving all
the children new shapes to look for.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l To make the shapes more sturdy and reusable, cover them with clear contact
paper or laminate the shapes.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the child name the shape he has to find?
l Can the child name the object that matches his shape?
