Instructions

1. Place several empty boxes, cans, and bottles on a low table. You might want to use a cereal box, a can of soup, and a bottle of dishwashing liquid.

2. Sit with the children and point out one or two numerals on each item. Numerals can be found in the names of some products, as well as listed in the contents and addresses found on the labels. Point to single digits, not a large number such as a zip code.

3. Point to one of the items and say a numeral that is easy to see. Ask the children to find it. Have them look for that numeral on other items.

4. Ask the children to choose a numeral for you to find on one of the containers.

5. This is a great way to use environmental print for a math activity.More to do Use the labels from the products to create a number book. Mount each label on a 5" x 7" piece of construction paper. Create a front and back cover and bind the pages into a book.
