Materials

  • Oscillating fan
  • Spray bottle filled with water
  • Ice cubes
  • Space heater, blower type

What to do

1. Wind: Ask the children, "How does it feel when the wind blows on your face and hair?" Turn on the fan and have the children feel the wind on the back of their heads and necks as well as on their faces.

2. Rain: Ask the children, "What happens when it rains?" Point the spray bottle (at mist setting) Weather over the children's heads and let them feel a gentle "rain."

3. Snow: Ask the children, "What happens when it snows and it is cold?" Give them ice cubes to rub on their faces and arms.

4. Heat: Ask the children, "How does it feel when it is hot?" Turn on the space heater and let them feel the warm air blowing from it. Note: Supervise closely the steps with the fan and the heater; be sure to warn children ahead of time not to touch these devices. Try placing a line with masking tape around the fan or heater. The children may not cross these lines with any part of their bodies.
