Materials
Construction paper
Scissors Glue Craft feathers Medium-sized googly eyesInstructions
What to do
1. Cut out a bird shape for each child from the construction paper.
2. Invite the children to spread the glue onto the paper where desired.
3. Let the child place the feathers on top of the glue.
4. Put glue onto the back of a googly eye and place it on the bird's head.
5. Let the bird dry completely.
6. The birds may be hung from the ceiling with yarn. If you decide to hang the birds, invite the
children to decorate both sides.
More to do
Science: Make a bird feeder using a grapefruit. Cut the fruit in half and scoop out the insides. This
may be eaten or discarded. Afterward allow the rind to dry out about 24 hours. Then punch several
holes around the edges for hanging purposes. Afterward, thread the yarn through the holes
and secure together. Place any type of birdseed or sunflower seeds inside and hang in a visible
tree area so the children can monitor its use. If no tree is available, then just take a walk outside
and spread some seed on the ground and the birds will probably find it.
Sensory: Add birdseed to your sensory table.
Snack: Make a wormy snack by mixing prepared chocolate pudding with crushed chocolate
sandwich cookies. Place the mix in a small cup and then garnish with gummy worm candies. Push
the worms down into the pudding mixture to invite the children to pull them out just like the
birds.
