Instructions

1. Label the paper bags with the numerals 1 to 10 (or 1 to 20 depending on children's ability). Place feathers in each bag according to the numeral on the bag. Place a stuffed beanbag bird inside one bag.

2. Invite the children to sit in a circle. Hand a bag to each child.

3. Play music as the children pass the bags around the circle.

4. When the music stops, invite the children to spill out their bag of feathers and count them aloud.

5. The person who spills the bird from her bag has to "fly" around the circle and flap her wings as she watches her classmates count.

6. Pass the beanbag bird around the circle and invite each child to announce how many feathers she has counted.

7. After the bird has traveled to each child, the children place their feathers back in the bag and continue the game.

8. Stop the music several times until everyone has had several opportunities to count.
