Paper

Tempera paint in fall or spring leaf colors

Cotton swabs

Instructions

1. Take the children on a nature walk and tell them that they are going to look for one leaf thatthey can call their favorite leaf.

2. When they return, invite the children to trace the leaf they selected on a piece of paper with apencil, holding the leaf in place with tape and being very careful not to damage the leaf as theytrace.

3. Then, ask the children to cut out their paper leaf shape.

4. Invite the children to paint their paper leaf shape with cotton swabs.

5. On a larger piece of paper, have the children glue the real leaf and their paper leaf, side by side.More to doMovement: Give each child a large, tissue paper leaf and invite them to move to an instrumentalrecording of "Autumn Leaves" or similar music.
