Materials

2 large shallow baking pans

bag of flour

2-cup measuring cup

plaster of Paris

water

several small, soft vegetable brushes

shellac (adult only)

Instructions

1. Make sure you start this great Father's Day gift well in advance. Completing it
takes some time.
2. Fill the baking pans with finely sifted flour. Make sure the flour is level and
does not come completely to the top of the pan.
3. Help each child carefully press one bare foot into the flour, leaving a foot
impression. Make sure the child lifts his foot straight up when done so the
sides of the flour footprint are not disturbed.
4. Mix the plaster of Paris according to the package directions. Quickly pour
some into the measuring cup and help the child fill his footprint to the top.
Be careful not to let the plaster overflow the footprint impression.
5. Set the footprints aside to harden. The plaster of Paris will warm as it hardens
and will slightly cook the layer of flour closest to it.
6. When the footprints have hardened and cooled, remove them from the flour
impression. Let the children help peel the cooked layer of flour away. This
might be difficult for some children, so offer help as needed.
7. Give the children a vegetable brush and encourage them to gently remove
any leftover flour from the footprint.
8. Spray the footprints with shellac for durability. Do this away from the
children.
9. Print each child's name on the bottom of his footprint.
10. The children can give their footprints to the fathers (or other special man in
their lives) for Father's Day.
