Instructions

1. If the children aren't familiar with "high fives," show them how to do it.

2. Have the children practice holding up one, two, three, and four individual fingers and saying the number out loud. Tell the children that this will help them visualize numbers in their minds as they go on to work with numbers later.

3. Quiz the children, asking them to hold up three fingers or four fingers, and see how many they hold up.

4. On one of the white gloves, write a 5 on the palm. On the other glove, write the numerals 6 to 10 on each fingertip. Put on the gloves. Tell the children that when they think of numbers between 6 and 10 to think of the "high" five.

5. Practice together by asking the children to show you seven or nine fingers, then doing it yourself with the numbered gloves, so they see how to count to 10 on their fingers.
