Instructions
1. Familiarize the children with nursery rhymes by reading or reciting them
during Circle Time.
2. Encourage the children to act out the nursery rhymes. For each nursery
rhyme, assign each child a part for each character in the rhyme. Also, assign a
narrator to recite the rhyme.
3. Some examples are:
Little Miss Muffet
Parts: Miss Muffet, spider, narrator
Props: Dress-up clothes, bowl and spoon, chair, spider
Humpty Dumpty
Parts: Humpty Dumpty, King's horses, King's men, narrator
Props: hat (for Humpty), chair (for the wall)
Little Bo Peep
Parts: Bo Peep, sheep, narrator
Props: Dress-up clothes
Hickory, Dickory, Dock
Parts: mouse, clock (someone making the sound of a clock),
narrator
Props: chair (for the mouse to "run" up, stand, and then jump down)

Home Connection: Videotape the children acting out the nursery rhymes. Show
the video to the children so they can see their performance. Put on a show for
parents on a special day.
Literacy: Ask the children to draw their favorite nursery rhymes using markers or
crayons. Put all of the drawings together and make a class book of nursery
rhymes.
