Instructions

1. On the first day of school, send home a piece of poster board with the
following note:
Family Collage
We are sending home this piece of poster board for you and your child to
decorate. Help your child glue on pictures of your family or magazine pictures
of favorite things; decorate it with markers, paint, stickers, and glitter; write on
it anything your child would like to do. We will hang these around the room.
Please make sure your child's name is somewhere on the collage.
2. Once the collages start to come in, hang them on the walls so the pieces
connect like a giant quilt. The children will likely spend long periods of
time looking at them and discussing the different people they see in the
collages.
3. Look at the collages with the children and ask questions. "Who has a
brother named Ben?" "Who has a sister named Tess?" Make a game out of
it.
