Materials

Sand bucket

Sand and sand table

Empty 20 ounce (600 ml) soda bottle

Water

Large baking pan2 measuring cups1 tablespoon (15 g) flour1 tablespoon (15 g) baking soda

Spoon

Funnel

Red food coloring1 cup (240 ml) white vinegar

Instructions

1. Place a sand bucket into the sand/water table. Put an empty soda bottle upside down in the center of sand bucket.2. Mix sand and water to make wet sand. Pack the wet sand around the soda bottle in the bucket.3. Turn over the sand bucket inside a baking pan and remove the bucket. (This will be the volcano.)4. In one of the measuring cups, mix together the 1 tablespoon (15 g) flour and 1 tablespoon (15 g) baking soda.5. Pour the mixture through a funnel into the soda bottle.6. Add 15 to 20 drops of red food coloring to the bottle.7. Pour about one half of the vinegar into the bottle.8. This will cause the mixture to foam, like a volcano eruption! When the foaming stops, pour in the rest of the vinegar.
