Materials

2 to 2 1/2 cups mini-marshmallows 1 to 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips mixing bowl and spoon smooth peanut butter wax paper hot plate or stove saucepan

Instructions

1. Mix mini-marshmallows and chocolate chips in a bowl.

2. Add just enough peanut butter so the mixture clumps together.

3. Ask the children to wash their hands.

4. Let each child grab a handful of the mixture and make a rock. Tell the children the rocks resemble sedimentary rocks. The marshmallows and the chocolate chips resemble sediments and the peanut butter represents a mineral that sticks the sediments together.

5. Place "rocks" on wax paper. Place a few of the "rocks" in the pan and heat them over low heat (adult only).

6. When the marshmallows melt, remove a spoonful of the new "rocks." These resemble metamorphic rocks. Explain that the "sedimentary rock" changed its form and structure because of the heat.

7. Eat the rocks for snack.
