Instructions
1. Give each child a beanbag. Encourage the children to explore the bags.
2. Play the "Can You?" game with the children in the following way:
* Can you put your beanbag on top of yourself?
* Can you put your beanbag underneath yourself?
* Can you put your beanbag in your right hand?
* Can you put your beanbag on your right shoulder?
3. Continue in this manner, with the children following oral directions. Be sure to
let them use their creativity to complete their tasks.
More to do
Divide the children into pairs and give each pair a beanbag. Ask the partners to
stand about 5' (1.5 m) apart and take turns throwing the beanbag to each other.
Using an empty box or laundry basket as a target, ask the children to stand about
4' (1 m) away from it and try to throw their beanbags into it. Challenge the children
to walk with the beanbag on their head, their hands, or their shoulders.
* Parents and/or volunteers can make the beanbags. Send a note home
asking for help. Cut out two squares of fabric, sew three sides, fill it
about 3/4 full with small beans or rice, and sew the open side closed.
