Instructions

1. Hand out a different seed to each child but do not explain to them what kind
of tree it comes from.
2. Ask the children to use their imaginations to draw a picture of what the tree
will look like once it grows to maturity. Have them draw themselves next to
the tree for scale purposes.
3. When they finish, show the children the pictures of the mature trees. Ask
them questions about their drawings. Are the drawings similar to the real tree?
Are the mature trees as big as they thought they would be? How can
something so large come from something so tiny? Have they ever planted a
tree?
4. When finished, invite the children to take the seeds home to plant them.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* When assigning materials to children younger than four, make sure to stick
with edible offerings (such as cherries and walnuts). When handing out nuts,
please keep allergies in mind.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Do the children understand that trees grow from small seeds?
* Can the children describe the shapes of the different seeds?
