Food coloring
Squeeze bottles such as detergent or shampoo containers
Paper
Paper products such as egg cartons, paper tubes, paper towels, and paper plates
Instructions
1. Help the children combine the first four ingredients in a mixing bowl, stirring well.
2. Divide the mixture into portions. Ask the children to add a few drops of food coloring to eachportion until the desired brightness or shade is achieved.
3. Pour each portion into a clean, empty squeeze bottle.
4. Invite the children to drizzle the goo onto paper and other surfaces, such as egg cartons, papertubes, paper toweling, or paper plates. Encourage them to make interesting shapes anddesigns.
5. The goo will keep its shape unless the mixture has been really thinned. It takes about a day toharden.
6. After the goo has hardened, invite the children to close their eyes and feel the shapes ordesigns with their fingers.More to doLanguage: Encourage the children to touch a variety of materials and describe them with wordssuch as soft, hard, smooth, rough, coarse, and slippery; cut out the words from poster board andcover them with the materials they describe.More art: Before the goo dries, have the children sprinkle it with salt, glitter, or other materials,adding texture and interest. When the goo is almost hard, have the children press an assortmentof collage materials into it. Apply the drizzle goo to other media such as tissue paper and cardboard.
