Materials

blank stickersmarkerbasket or box containing 10 small toy cars12" x 18" piece of black construction paperlarge sheet of colored paperlarge and small books5" x 7" note cardwooden blocktapescissors

Instructions

1. Print the numerals 1 to 10 on blank stickers. Attach one to each car.

2. Cut a 4" wide curvy road shape from the black paper.

3. Draw a 10-part grid on the colored paper. Number the spaces 1 to 10 to create a "parking lot."4. Make a ramp for the cars by stacking several small books in a pile, then leaning one end of the largest book on the stack.

5. Place the road near the end of the ramp and the parking lot near the other end of the road.

6. Write "Parking Lot" on the notecard and tape it to the wooden block so it will stand up. Display the sign near the parking lot.

7. Place the basket of cars near the top of the ramp. What to do 1. Demonstrate the activity so that children can do it on their own or with a partner. Remove one car from the basket and place it at the top of the ramp.

2. Identify the numeral on the car and hold it at the top of the ramp.

3. Let the car go down the ramp. Drive the car onto the road and into the parking lot.

4. Park the car in the space with the matching numeral.

5. The game continues until all the cars are parked in the correct spaces.More to do Create a parking lot without numerals.
