Instructions
1. Show the children the map. Talk about how maps are small versions of large
locations, and that this map shows the United States.
2. Challenge the children to point out their home state.
3. Ask the children if they have friends or relatives who live in other states. Ask
the children to name those states, and to try and point them out on the map.
4. Put a small sticker on each state for every friend or relative the children have
living in those locations.
5. Ask the children if those states are close to or far from their home state.
6. Count the number of states between the children's home state and the various
states where their friends and relatives live.
7. With the children, count the numbers of dots they put on the map, and
compare the numbers of friends and relatives living in different states. Ask
the children which state has the largest number of dots, and which has the
smallest number of dots.
