doll clothes in various colors

Instructions

l Prepare a song chart with words to the song printed with appropriate blanks.
l Make cards with color names written on them or circles of assorted colors to
place in the blanks.
What to Do
1. Invite the children to sit in a group and to use "their listening ears."
2. Sing the following song with the children:
Color Song by Margery Kranyik Fermino
(Tune: "Mary Had a Little Lamb")
If you're wearing something red, something red, something red,
If you're wearing something red, stand and wave to us.
3. Repeat the song using other colors while placing the colored circles or color
names in the song chart.
4. Invite children to choose a color for everyone to sing and place the
appropriate symbol on the chart.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l It is easy to use this song for transitions by singing, "Go and stand in line" or
"Go and get your snack" instead of "Stand and wave to us."
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children connect the color names in the song to corresponding
articles of clothing?
l Review the concept of following directions by asking the children what part of
the song is a direction.
