White construction paper

Pens or markers, optional

Instructions

1. Wet the sand in a sandbox or container.2. Help each child push his foot into the sandabout 1" (2 cm) deep.3. After the child removes his foot, place aring of heavy paper around the child's footprint.4. Mix Plaster of Paris with water and gentlypour it into the ring until it completelyfills the print.5. Allow the print to dry for three hours oruntil it is hard.6. Carefully remove the print from the sandand brush off any loose sand.7. If desired, the children may paint theirfootprints.More to doMake handprints instead of footprints.Outdoors: Leave the wet sand outside neara bird feeder to try and get a bird print.Science: With the children, go outside andtry to find other animal prints of which tomake plaster prints.
