Instructions

1. Put the eggs in the basket. Place the basket and the empty egg carton
on the floor.
2. Let the children explore the eggs, carton, and basket freely.
3. Encourage the children to put the eggs into the egg carton and then
put them back in the basket.
4. As the children play, talk about the color of the eggs or count the eggs
as they move them from the carton to the basket and back again. Ask
questions such as, "Is the basket full?" or "Is the basket empty?"
More to do Ask the children to take the eggs out of the basket and put them in the
egg carton in a certain way. For example, ask them to put the red egg into
the carton. Then ask them to put a blue egg into the carton. Keep the
instructions simple by asking for only one egg color at a time, so the
children will experience success.
Math: Older toddlers may be able to remove a certain amount of eggs
from the basket upon request. For example, say, "Give me four eggs,
please." Count with the child as he hands you the eggs.
More Math: If there are pairs of eggs, have the children match the eggs
by color.
