Plaster of Paris Sand

Instructions

1. At least 24 hours before you plan to do this activity, make one mini dinosaur mountain for each child. Mix together 2 cups (500 ml) plaster of Paris and 5 cups (1.

25 L) of sand. Add 2 cups (250 ml) of water and stir. Mixture should be fairly thick. Pour the mixture into a cupcake pan lined with paper cups. Put a plastic dinosaur in each cup while the plaster is still wet.

2. Explain to the children that they are going to become paleontologists (people who study life from long ago).

3. Give each child a mountain and a popsicle stick and explain that they are going to excavate the dinosaurs. Say that just like scientists, we must work slowly and carefully to scrape awaythe mountain.More to doArt: Let the children dip the plastic dinosaurs' feet into tempera paint and walk them across a long narrow strip of paper.
