Materials

large, sturdy shoebox or gift box

glue

markers or crayons

paint and paintbrushes

variety of materials (lace; buttons; paper hearts and flowers; colorful

pictures cut from magazines, greeting cards, or calendars; ribbon; pieces

of fabric; glitter; and so on)

Instructions

1. Before doing this activity, decorate a shoebox. Fill it with your personal
memorabilia, such as ticket stubs, greeting
cards, photos, collectibles, drawings,
pressed flowers, sports badges,
jewels, and stickers.
2. Show the box and memorabilia
to the children. Explain to
them that many objects
can hold precious
memories for
parents, relatives,
and friends.
3. Ask the children to
name some items that they
would consider saving or sharing
with others.
4. Provide a box and plenty of decorating supplies for each child.
The children can present these memory boxes to someone special in
their lives.
