2. On the top line, print: "Today is..." Leave the second line blank.
3. Print "The weather is..." on the third line.
4. Cover the poster board with clear adhesive plastic for protection.
5. Make pockets with the 2" x 12" clear plastic strips, attaching them with
clear plastic tape. Put one after "Today is," one at the beginning of the
second line, and one centered on the bottom. These will hold the cards
to complete the sentences.
6. Use one color marker to write the days of the week on seven of the 3" x
11" cards, and use another color marker to write the twelve months of
the year on the same size cards. Write 2005 on the remaining card
(tape this card next to the pocket on the second line to remain until the
new year).
7. Write the numerals 1-31 on the 3" x 8" cards using a third color.
8. On the 3" x 10" cards, write "sunny," "cloudy," "snowy," "rainy," and "windy"
with an appropriate symbol (sun, cloud, snowflake, or raindrops).
9. Mount the calendar where it can be used during circle time. Store the
cards in boxes nearby (labeled: months, days, dates, weather).
10. At the beginning of the month, present the new month. It will stay in
place until the month is ended.
11. Each day a child will place the correct day and date (help her, if
necessary) after the month.
12. Children will enjoy choosing the weather symbol each day.
