Instructions

1. Create a number grid by drawing a 10-square grid on a sheet of copy paper. Write 1 to 10 in the spaces on the page, with a large bold marker. (For older children, make a 20-square grid and number from 1 to 20.) Make copies of the number page on various colors of paper.

2. Give each child a number grid. Help them cut apart the number grid and practice sequencing the numerals in order from 1 to 10. Note: For younger children, you may need to cut out the squares for them.

3. Invite the children to make a fun pouch to carry their number cards in. Help them punch two holes in the top of an envelope, beneath the flap, one hole on each side.

4. Guide the children in stringing the yarn through the two holes and tying it at the top.

5. Invite them to decorate the "pouch" with numeral stamps or stickers.

6. The children can wear their pouch at home or in the classroom so they can practice placing the numerals in order from 1 to 10 when time permits.
