The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Construction paper, one each of several colors
Instructions
1. Put a rope or a line of tape on the floor in a straight line. This will be the
"river."
2. Demonstrate how to jump over the river. Start with both feet flat on the floor.
Bend your knees and jump forward, over the river.
3. Encourage the children to jump, one at a time.
4. If the children have difficulty, let them jump off a stool a few times.

Use two ropes and make the "river" wider. Raise the rope (tie each end to a
chair) and practice crawling under it.
