Materials
Pair of socks for each child
Pompoms, fabric scraps, and rickrack
Hot glue gun (adult only)
Paint pens
Instructions
1. With the children, draw a circle (or a triangle or square if desired) on a piece
of stiff paper.
2. Help the children cut out the circle. (If the box is too hard to cut with children's
scissors, cut it out for them.)
3. Help the children write their names on their circle.
4. Punch a hole in the middle of the circle.
5. Encourage the children to decorate their circles with markers. If desired,
provide sparkles, pompoms, and glue.
6. Put a round Popsicle stick or drinking straw through the hole.
7. Peng-eei is a traditional play in Korea. The word "peng" means spinning. The
children can twist the Popsicle stick and let the Peng-eei spin on the table or
the floor.
More to do
Math: Make a graph so
children can compare and
visualize the different
shapes.
Science: Encourage children
to make different
shaped peng-eeis, such as
triangles and squares. They
can compare the shapes of
the peng-eei and see how
long each shape spins.
They also can color the
surface of the peng-eei
and see the color combination
when it spins (yellow
+ blue = green).
