Instructions

1. Down one side of the paper or board, write the names of three animals, such as monkey, giraffe, and zebra.

2. Go around the circle and have each child name her favorite animal from the three choices.

3. As each child names her favorite animal, put a mark next to that animal.

4. After all the children have had a turn, count up the marks for each animal and write the numeral next to the animal.

5. Arrange the children into three groups according to the animal they chose as their favorite. Count the children in each group and discuss how the number within their groups corresponds to the number on the chart.

6. Help the children figure which animal had the most votes and which had the fewest votes based on both the numbers and their group size.
