Instructions

1. Beforehand, cut yellow construction paper into 3" squares. Make ten for each
child.
2. Show the children a slice of Swiss cheese. Encourage them to count the
holes.
3. Explain that they will make their own Swiss cheese counting books.
4. Give each child ten yellow squares. Help them write the numerals one to ten
on the squares. Each square should have a different number.
5. Let them use a hole punch to punch as many holes as the numeral on the
paper (slice of cheese) indicates. They continue until all ten cards have the
correct number of holes.
6. Ask the children to line up their slices in numerical order, and then staple
them together to make a Swiss cheese counting book.
