Instructions

1. When you are working on rhymes and you have a few extra moments at
circle time, play this simple and fun game.
2. Ask the children to stand up and get ready to listen for rhymes.
3. When you say, "Go!" the children jump up and down. They continue jumping
if they hear you say words that rhyme and stop if they hear one word that
doesn't rhyme.
4. Say, "Go!" While the children are jumping, call out three to four words that
rhyme, such as "cake," "rake," "snake," and "lake," and then call out one that
doesn't rhyme, such as "dog." They should stop jumping.
5. Say, "Go!" again and use another rhyming family such as words that end in
"all." Keep going until the children get the hang of listening for the words
that do not rhyme. Use real and nonsense words for more fun. The point here
is for the children to develop their listening skills for rhyming.
