Instructions

1. As the children line up and get ready to transition or move from one room or
area to another, ask them to think about animals that do not make any
sounds, such as insects, worms, lobsters, spiders, rabbit, deer, and fish.
2. Tell the children to pretend to become one of those animals. The whole
group can pretend to become one of the animals or each child can choose a
different animal. The point is to choose a silent animal so that the children
will transition quietly.
3. When the children arrive at the new destination ask them how they moved.
Might there be different ways of moving the next time the same animal is
chosen? How did they feel becoming that animal? Did the animal have a
name? If each child chose a different animal, how did the children feel with
other animals close by?
More to do Instead of animals, the children could pretend to be vehicles. Making a train
could be accomplished by putting hands on the shoulders of the person
directly in front. A ship or boat could sway quietly on the waves. An airplane
can soar quietly through the air.
