Materials

four or five different types/colors of honey (ask families for donations)

paper plates

Instructions

Give each child one length of
ribbon. Tell them the name of
each color and ask them to
repeat these names.
2. Spin the spinner and name
the color it lands on. Then
say, "If you are holding the
matching color ____, wave
your ribbon in the air."
3. Continue playing with
different variations, such as,
"Call out the color name
three times," "Whisper the
color name once," or "Wag
your ribbon like a tail."
4. Let the children choose a different color, if desired.
5. Invite children who are comfortable leading the game to spin the spinner and
name the color and instruction.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Give the children sheets of orange, green, and purple paper. Can the children
match the sheets of paper to like-colored items in the classroom, and name
the colors of each item?
